The complimentary color of red is green and when added to red it makes darker shades. Equal parts of red to green will create the color of mud. Cadmium is a basic red and that is used to create burgundy. Mix this with a pure black and ultramarine blue.

Grab your pallet and place a bit of red, black and blue onto it.
